Swimming Lessons

The boys started swimming lessons today! It's 3 times a week for the next 2 weeks, but it'll go by fast! On the 4th when we were celebrating with some friends at their pool, Drew would not go in the pool without his shoes on (most the time he was having fun and splashing from the side). He doesn't go outside unless he has HIS shoes on (I've offered mine before, but he's declined). Since that was just last week, I wasn't sure what to expect today.

We went yesterday to the Lake Saint Louis pool to get him use to where the lessons would be. He LOVED it! He went in the big pool, the kiddie pool, through the waterfalls, in the lake all WITHOUT his shoes!! So today, we were cautiously optimistic.

There were tons of kids of different ages in lessons at the big pool. They are all broken up into small groups. Drew and Blake were with another little girl and a boy who will be there on Wednesday. The first thing they did was splash on the side of the pool and play red light/green light. They loved it. Then it was time to get on a body board. The instructors demonstrated and Drew volunteered first (We were shocked since Blake always volunteers first in other classes)- the was a pro. However, after that he smiled and then decided he was done with lessons and wanted to go to the kiddie pool to play in the waterfall....he sat out the rest of the time. While, Blake is a fish in the water! He did everything the instructors asked, went forwards and backwards on the body board, jumped off the side, scooped for cherries, put his head under water, dove for rings, etc.!! He was a pro! He was upset a couple of times since Drew was on the sidelines, but was easily persuaded to get back in the pool.

After class was over we played in the kiddie pool with toys. Drew was bummed we were leaving and he cried the whole way home! Who knows what Wednesday will bring, if he wants to do it on his terms he will, if not, he will sit out! He didn't even care today that it was 100 degrees outside!! A perfect day to be IN the pool!!
